  • How does Direct Primary Care save on costs?
Direct primary care is an interesting model that cuts insurance out of the healthcare equation. Direct care is a model in which patients pay their provider directly, rather than using a third-party like insurance or Medicare. This reduces cost by eliminating insurance markup and hidden fees. Dr. Buls is also available for emergent and urgent cares. For example, one trip to an urgent care can cost you upwards of $250. Or a trip the emergency room can cost $1500. One trip to the emergency room can cost you more than you monthly premiums for the year.
  • Do you take insurance?
Thankfully, no! Insurance is better served for catastrophic health issues, and has only caused unnecessary increase in primary care. We intentionally forego insurance, to reduce these unnecessary costs, and to remove the “middle-man” from your healthcare.
  • Do I still need insurance?
We recommend that you do maintain some form of insurance, much like your car insurance, for catastrophic events like surgery or accidents. A health cost sharing plan (such as Christian Health Ministries) works nicely for this option and is generally less expensive than traditional insurance. You may also find low-premium/high deductible catastrophic options when looking at Non-ACA (Affordable Care Act) plans, which often have prices similar to health cost sharing plans. Most of your outpatient care needs can be done in the clinic and are covered by your monthly fee.
  • How do I pay?
We offer automatic, electronic monthly withdraws from your bank account or debit/credit card. This eliminates the need to hire a billing and collections staff member and that means you save money! You can also pay with cash/check.
  • Is there a contract or can I leave the practice?
There is an agreement form signed upon enrollment, but there is no contract and you can leave the practice at any time. It is important to us that your healthcare is a good fit for you – both your doctor and the way you pay for it.
  • Can I contact my doctor after hours?
Of course. Medical issues and questions rarely happen from 9-5 which is why direct primary care is becoming such a desired medical model. 24-hour access for all medical needs just a phone call away.
  • What happens if I need to see a specialist?
We can provide referrals to any variety of specialist. We work with several specialist who provide discounts for “cash pay.” However, we also can refer to In-Network specialists.
  • What if I need imaging?
We have a great connection multiple wonderful mobile imaging services that will either come straight to our office or meet you at your home. They will accept cash or will work with your insurance companies.
  • What if I need lab work?
We have the ability to do some basic point of care lab work within our office. Most lab work will be drawn in our office and sent out to an associate lab for a negotiated cost to our patients. This cost will be far less than bill you have seen in the past through traditional models of care. Patients may submit bills to insurance companies for reimbursement.
